Nightmare Frontier is a premium strategy game for PC developed by Ice Code Games. It is an extraction-based adventure set in a dark fantasy world. In it, players lead a band of scavengers during an alternate reality of the Old Wild West that has been altered and twisted by the presence of nightmarish monsters.

Similar in concept to other games like Helldivers 2 or Marauders, Nightmare Frontiers has players take on objective-based missions across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. They will face all kinds of supernatural entities in strategic turn-based combat as they complete their task and bring home precious loot.

Supernatural Wild West

Nightmare Frontier takes place in a twisted alternate reality during the 1900s of the wild frontier when man dreams of attaining the "American Dream" by any means necessary. You lead a band of scavengers to venture into a desolate boom town in search of loot and reclaim it. However, you must deal with nightmare-come-to-life entities called the Dreadweavers, spreading fear and attacking anyone who dares enter.

The gameplay revolves around raid attempts to push back and reclaim the town from the Dreadweavers while collecting loot along the way. Balance risk vs reward as the danger increases the deeper you go, or retreat with what you have and try another time. Combine unique skills and abilities to achieve chain shots and overcome the dread that invades the minds of your men.

Harvest materials from fallen enemies to use in crafting weapons and gear for your team. In between runs, invest in diverse skill trees, keep your men fed, and manage their fears, which can affect their performance during battles. As of this writing, though, Nightmare Frontier is not yet available, and there is no exact release date for it outside of a planned Q2 2025 window.

Towards the American Dream

Overall, Nightmare Frontier is shaping up to be an interesting fantasy adventure with engaging combat, a curious story, and plenty of loot to go around. The old Western setting mixed with supernatural horror themes is a nice touch and will be compelling to explore and experience. Keep this on your radar and give it a try when it comes out.
