Square Enix celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Nier series with NieR Re[in]carnation (ニーア リィンカーネーション)—a Gacha game where players can acquire weapons, equipment, and other in-game items. Set in a world of cages (檻), towers, and dungeons, a girl in white wakes up. She is greeted by a creature named ‘Mama’  and realizes that she has no voice and no memories. Together, they attempt to discover where she came from and why she ended up in a cage. 

Is NieR Reincarnation a Gacha game?

NieR Re[in]carnation was developed by Applibot and published by Square Enix as a free-to-play smartphone role-playing game. Originally written in Japanese, it has now been localized and dubbed for the English version. Although NieR Re[in]carnation is not a follow-up to either of the series' titles, it takes place in the same world as Nier (the game) and Nier: Automata. The two were made for mobile too.

You play as the girl, a.k.a. ‘White Girl,' who wakes up in a cage. Just like Grimoires in Nier and Pods in Nier: Automata, the protagonist will have a companion, in this case, it’s Mama. The multiple protagonists and story progression were inspired by Puzzles & Dragons; a team of 3 can be assembled. Each member can attack, use a unique character skill, or use an equipped weapon’s skill. Every player can customize their equipment.

It's crucial to make the most of your time in the game since you can also win points. Naturally, in Gacha, you can still bet your health and stats. NieR Re[in]carnation has elements of Gacha, RPG, and strategy all over the game. These elements are portrayed in a coherent narrative, which will unlock this game for more players to download and to enjoy.

NieR Re[in]carnation is a great addition to the Nier series. It mixes three different styles of gaming into one epic about reflecting on the past and looking forward to the future. You can immerse yourself in the story, or enjoy the game casually by increasing your stats and health. Overall, NieR Re[in]carnation is a game worth looking forward to.
