Navratri is the most important Hindu festival that is celebrated every year in India. It is a religious festival that is dedicated to the worship of the goddess Durga. It is a nine-day festival and is celebrated twice a year. The first celebration occurs in the month of Chaitra and the second one takes place in the month of Ashwin.

The festival begins with a fast wherein a person is not allowed to eat or drink anything but is required to sit in the middle of a pond and not to touch any debris. It is believed that if the person sits in the middle of the pond and controls his breath, then the goddess Durga will appear and destroy all the evil forces. It is also believed that if the person touches any debris, the goddess will not appear and the evil forces will get stronger.
