Motorcycles of the Apocalypse is a free mod for Fallout 3 that promises an immersive motorcycling experience on Point Lookout and the Wasteland. A step up from alexkidd62’s Motorcycle Remake mod, this utility tool not only includes more features and improvements, but also supports compatibility with the Helpless Falling add-on. 

Although Motorcycles of the Apocalypse is a work in progress, the add-on is usable — save for a few technical issues you may encounter while using it. It also requires the following mods: Command Extender, FOSE, Helpless Falling, and J3X Driveable Motorcycle Remake.

Realism reigns supreme

Motorcycles of the Apocalypse ensures that collision physics is grounded in reality. For instance, you will be sent flying from your motorcycle when you drive at high speeds and hit a solid object or a mob with a higher mass than the vehicle’s combined mass. Not only that, your character will be damaged as well. In essence, this mod discourages reckless driving of motorcycles.

Interestingly, there’s a possibility of the player pushing a mob. This happens when the bike is fast enough and if the inventory of your character and vehicle has ample mass. Like in real life, damages also occur. Repairing your bike dispels the debuffs caused by a damaged vehicle part. Conversely, the motorcycle gets destroyed if you don’t repair it. Unfortunately, when dismounting from a motorcycle, your character’s hands become deformed.

Furthermore, the mod features six collectible motorcycle chassis — all of which are repairable. Two of the motorcycle chassis are found in Point Lookout, while the rest are located in the Capital Wasteland. With the ability to rebuild and customize a motorcycle, you can try out many of the available modifications for your bike, such as spoke blades and engine input, to name a few.

Multiple mods are needed

Overall, Motorcycles of the Apocalypse is the perfect mod for players who value immersion and realism. Encouraging defensive driving in Point Lookout and Wasteland, players become more mindful of mobs in the environment as well as their own speed. While the mod’s premise is appealing, take note that you’ll need to download and install other mods to run this add-on.
