Promising but unreliable

With the MLB app, you can still follow the baseball season, even if you don’t have the time to watch the game. The app provides in-game highlights, as well as the MLB.TV Game of the Day.  You can also access every out-of-the-market game and even listen to the radio broadcast. The app also allows the streaming of select live MLB.TV broadcasts in 60fps. It provides its users with gameday pitch-by-pitch features, including realistic ballpark renderings from all 30 MLB parks.

Moreover, you can browse and sort through batting, fielding, and pitching statistics of the season. Of course, you can also get the latest news and schedules of the season, as well as the interactive rosters and player stats for every team. If you have a favorite team, you can designate them to be featured as the app’s home screen. Your team will also be highlighted on the scoreboard, and in the news and video sections. You can also assign your team as the app’s icon for the home screen widget. With this, you can access your team’s page with just one tap.

As promising the features of the app are, the same cannot be said to its performance. For one, users who wish to watch the videos are in for a disappointment as most of them do not work. The widget function is also not that reliable. It takes ages for the home screen to load whenever you open the app using the widget. To make all these things worse, the app has tons of ads. 

Needs improvement

Overall, the MLB app would have been a great companion app to the popular baseball tournament. The app offers a lot of features that you can use to follow your favorite team throughout the season. However, most of these features—especially the videos—do not work. As it is now, the app needs major patching up to give its users the services they paid for.
