Minesweeper! is a revamped version of the classic puzzle game of the same name, which was popular on early versions of the Windows operating system. The re-make has been developed by RossGames and remains faithful to the main concept of the original, while enhancing certain aspects. As a result, it is able to simultaneously offer players a sense of nostalgia and provide its own unique appeal.

A Familiar Experience

The basic premise of the game remains the same. The player is provided with a grid of squares, and must click on squares that do not contain mines, while avoiding squares that do. Numbers appear on the board, providing valuable information about how many mines are nearby, allowing for logical decisions to be made. This RossGames re-interpretation provides save and load options, a replay feature, a re-wind option, and customizable board colors.

No Real Innovation

Minesweeper! provides very little in the way of true gameplay innovation, so may not appeal to those seeking a more revolutionary update. Moreover, there are some infrequent algorithm issues, occasionally making pure guesswork necessary, which is frustrating in a logic-based game. With that being said, it is an enjoyable remake, staying true to its source material and introducing some welcome new elements.
