The micro:bit app is the essential companion to the BBC micro:bit, a pocket-sized programmable computer. This free app allows you to flash any micro:bit hex file to your device and provides online access to the Microsoft MakeCode editor for block-based programming. With easy-to-follow screens, the app guides you through the process of pairing your iPhone to the micro:bit and transferring your program code wirelessly via Bluetooth.

Version 3.1 of the micro:bit app introduces several new features. The pairing and micro:bit discovery flow has been simplified, and the micro:bit V2 can now be put into pairing mode by triple-tapping the reset button. You can now retrieve micro:bit data log files from your device, and pair with multiple micro:bits. The app also allows you to store, choose, export, and delete HEX files, and import stored HEX files directly into the JavaScript Blocks editor. Rapid download from the JavaScript Blocks editor is now possible.

A major addition in Version 3 is the Monitor and Control page, which enables real-time observation of micro:bit sensor data, direct messaging to the LEDs, and control of the micro:bit buttons and pins from your iPhone. This feature is ideal for exploiting Bluetooth services in real time and debugging program code while it is running in the micro:bit.
