Merge Fables is a free puzzle title for mobile devices from developer Microfun Limited. It's a fantasy-themed puzzler with match-3 gameplay mechanics. In it, players will merge three or more pieces in order to get rewards and coins they need to help make a barren land habitable and thrive.

Compared to similar games like Tile Match 3 or Royal Match, Merge Fables takes a more casual approach to gameplay that lets players enjoy the game at their own pace. There is also a city-building element to it all that adds a layer of complexity and strategy to the experience.

Reinvigorate the land

Merge Fables follows the duo of Dorothy and Toto who land on a foreign and unfamiliar island. However, the land is in bad shape and needs to be revitalized to be habitable again. You will need to gather materials and build structures to achieve this. The game employs a match-three gameplay mechanic wherein you will need to merge three or more similar pieces to form an item.

The implementation in the game is quite clever. If you need to produce fruit, you first need to plant a seed that blossoms into a shrub and then grows in a tree, and only then can it be harvested. You'll also merge coins needed to purchase more seeds and items. You can also spend them to get gems to buy even larger quantities of the material mentioned.

Clear the fog away to unravel more land and along the way, meet various characters who will help you accomplish your objectives. There are also regular in-game events that you can participate in to get a chance to win big rewards. However, it just takes way too long to accomplish tasks unless you spend actual money to purchase coins and gems to speed things up.

Merge and expand

All in all, if you're a fan of match-three games, then Merge Fables is worth checking out with its clever implementation of the popular gameplay loop. It looks great, easy to learn, and there are multiple things to do as you explore and bring back life to your island. Aside from the concerns regarding events, this is a title that you should try.
