On February 22, 2020, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (USCIS) announced the reintroduction of the 2008 version of the citizenship test with 100 questions.

Applicants before March 1, 2021, can choose to take either the 2020 version with 128 questions or the 2008 version with 100 questions.

Starting from March 1, 2021, USCIS will only use the 2008 version with 100 questions for the citizenship test.

On April 19, 2021, the 2020 version of the test will be invalidated.
