Run your own tavern in a medieval world
Medieval StartUp is a simulation game developed by Editions Aspics Games for PC. It puts you in the role of a tavern keeper, and you must juggle between tavern management, resource gathering, crafting, and exploring a medieval-themed world. The world sports a low-poly art style with dynamic lighting and ambience.
The setting of Medieval StartUp is in a remote swamp settlement, where your own tavern is located, and you have to manage it on a day-to-day basis until it becomes a successful business with steady income and a high influx of customers. The game features a rewarding progression system.
Grow a small inn into a thriving establishment
During your first day in Medieval StartUp, you are given nothing but a small old inn, and you have to work hard until it gradually builds into a huge tavern. To get to that point, you’re going to have to construct basic tavern utilities such as a cooking station, a dishwashing basin, and other necessities. It’s a slow process at the start, but it gets more streamlined later on.
Workers are available for you to hire, and they’ll help you out with serving the customers of your tavern. Gathering is another key aspect; any resources that you have obtained can be used to craft meals, drinks, and furniture. There are over 50 unique recipes to discover and craft. Professions, such as carpentry, baking, farming, and many more, can also be unlocked as you progress through the game.
The world is also alive and vibrant, with NPCs roaming the surroundings of the tavern. It also features weather effects, complete with a day and night cycle, to breathe life into the environment. The game does feel like an indie title at times, due to the simple, low-poly graphics, which is a good thing, as the hardware requirements are low and not as demanding.
Rewards hard work and managerial skills
Overall, Medieval StartUp is a cozy management game that has a satisfying progression system. It rewards hard work, and you get to see your tavern business flourish, sort of like a “rags to riches” adventure. However, the grind is definitely there due to gathering and crafting mechanics, and it does take a lot of patience to get to the part where your business is finally thriving on its own.
