McBopomofo (小麥注音) is a smart phonetic (zhuyin/注音) Chinese Input Method Editor specifically designed for ChromeOS. Developed by zonble, this free extension offers a convenient alternative for inputting Chinese characters.

One of the standout features of McBopomofo is its behavior in handling punctuation. Unlike the built-in Zhuyin IME, McBopomofo allows users to input punctuation like exclamation marks even when there is already text in the composing buffer. This makes it much more user-friendly and intuitive for those familiar with other platforms.

Additionally, McBopomofo offers various keyboard layouts to suit different preferences, including Standard, ETen, Hsu, ETen26, Hanyu Pinyin, and IBM. Users can also customize settings such as the position of the candidates and whether Shift+Letter keys should input uppercase or lowercase letters.

Chinese conversion is made easy with McBopomofo. Users can toggle between inputting Traditional and Simplified Chinese using the Alt+Shift+G shortcut, which can be customized in the extension's shortcut settings. Furthermore, the extension allows users to create custom user phrases, making it even more convenient for frequent use.

To add a touch of fun, McBopomofo associates certain Bopomofo syllables with emojis. For example, typing ㄏㄨㄛˇ will result in the emoji.
