Matthew Henry was a famous British theologian, Bible scholar, and educator. He was one of the leading figures in the development of the Protestant Christian faith in England, America, and Europe.

Matthew Henry was born in Wales and studied at the University of Wales, where he received his BA (Hons) degree in 1710 and his D.D. (Doctor of Divinity) degree in 1713. He was also an ordained minister in the Church of England, and from 1715 to 1718 he served as the minister of St. Mary's Church, in London.

His reputation as a scholar and his reputation as a popular and effective preacher made him a major figure in the development of the Protestant faith in England, America, and Europe. He is best known for his commentaries on the Bible.
