In India, forests cover 33% of the country, and they are home to 60% of the wildlife species. The forests provide vital ecosystem services like water filtration, climate stability, and food for wildlife. They also have an important role in our ecosystem.

However, the country has the largest deforestation rate in the world. The growing demand for timber, paper, and other wood products is driving the forest to become increasingly scarce and valuable. As a result, humans are destroying the natural environment.

In an effort to reverse the destruction, the State Government of Maharashtra has taken up the initiative of planting 50 crore new trees. This initiative is a part of the larger Green Army initiative, which aims to plant 50 million new trees in the state. The objective of this initiative is to not only to safeguard the forests, but also to improve the environmental quality of the state.
