Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra (108) is one of the most powerful and popular ancient Indian mantras. It is a prayer to Lord Shiva, the third person in the Hindu trinity, for help in overcoming the death that comes from the human life.

The prayer to Lord Shiva is made by a king named Prahlad, who is in a deep sleep. He is in the presence of the gods, and his men are trying to wake him up. Suddenly, the music stops and a voice asks, "Who is it that is disturbing the king?"

Prahlad awakens, and the question who is disturbing him is answered by one of the gods, who tells him, "It is the third person, who is asking for the blessing to be bestowed upon him in his life."

The king is told that he will be granted the blessing if he asks for it. He asks for the blessing, and it is bestowed upon him.
