Despite the name, MAC Address Scan is actually a collection of small applications that can be used to manage your local area network.

A Comprehensive Collection

Obviously, given the name, the app can be used to scan a local area network for devices, allowing you to see what is connected to your network. There is also a port scan function, a packet monitor, ping utility and ping scan function, and the option to enable wake on LAN functionality. Some of the features, for example the ping scan function, can operate outside of the LAN, while the other functions just work on the LAN itself.

Utilitarian but Useful

It should be noted that MAC Address Scan is just making use of functions already built in to your Mac system and adding a more user friendly interface over the top. With that in mind, it would be nice if the user interface was a little more pleasing to the eye. There is also no reverse hostname functionality. The scan itself returns somewhat generic results and you will need to work out what each device is in order to label them. But the app does what it sets out to.
