LIDAR.EXE is a free horror game from indie developer KenForest. In this game, players will have a chilling adventure inside a gloomy place. However, where you are is completely dark, and you only have a lidar scanner to help you navigate.

LIDAR.EXE is based on the indie horror game Scanner Sombre and its Lidar add-on. It also shares the same gameplay as the latter, using the scanner to unveil clues and secrets. However, unlike Scanner Sombre, the art style of this one is almost black and white, with only the objects, text clues, and the scanner colored red. 

What is LIDAR.EXE?

LIDAR.EXE plays like a typical escape room game. As mentioned, it starts with you waking up in a dark space. The place you're in is pitch dark, and the only way you can see is by using a lidar scanner. By scanning your surroundings, you will be able to make out the walls and the passages inside the gloomy place. It will also reveal clues to the puzzles.

The controls of the game are easy. To move around, you can use the WASD keys. Meanwhile, you can press the E key to interact with objects you find. The LMB allows you to use the scanner. You can even go for a more detailed scan through the RMB keys. Finally, you can change the radius of the scanner using your mouse scroll.

Like similar games, this one comes with puzzles and mysteries you need to solve to escape. However, there is also a monster on the loose within the place that will prevent you from escaping. When you spot it, you have to run, or else you're dead. It also doesn't help that the map is too large that you'll end up getting lost or miss clues as you wander around.

Should you play it?

All in all, LIDAR.EXE is a recommended title for horror game fans. The concept of scanning your surroundings to navigate it makes the experience unique. Moreover, the game displays really fantastic visuals. The jump scares aren't that scary, unlike other horror titles, but the premise is enough to keep you on your toes. However, the map is too big that you spend more time exploring than solving puzzles.
