The game's narrative begins with Mr. Pu Songling's seclusion on Shangqing Mountain after writing "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio." The unique environment of Shangqing Mountain infused his work, creating a fantastical world within the real world. Initially stable, this world starts to unravel as Pu Songling ages. To restore balance, he creates the "Book of Spirits" and calls upon a chosen individual (the player) to venture into the mystical world of "Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio," documenting its ecology and seeking to bring order to the chaotic realm.
