Along the way, you will meet other adventurers and witches. The goal is to seal away the darkness that threatens their forest. As the game falls under the Metroidvania subgenre, you will find that there is a large interconnected world map that you can explore.

In Lianthus, you take on the role of a small and adorable skeleton that was brought back to life by a witch. The same woman threatens to unleash darkness into the forest where the happy flora and fauna reside. It is the living beings in this area who are part of the light world. With the witch threatening it, the world is at risk of living in complete darkness their entire lives. 

To bring the world back to the light, you must go on a journey to discover your powers and use it to seal the dark away. It will require you to discover near information, learn new skills, and unlock puzzles all while befriending the quirky characters of this world. At times, you will need to enter the passageway to the darkness. Other than it being dark and mysterious, the appearance is similar to the forest in the light world. 

The game appears in colorful, 8-bit graphics so it can be played by gamers of all ages; however, young players may be deterred by the controls. The game uses several keys to play; WASD keys are reserved for movement, E for interaction, LMB for the attack, and the Mouse for aiming. The gameplay, however, is straightforward; follow the instructions per puzzle and you should be able to complete the game.
