Free-to-use AI writing tool
LEX is a free-to-use web-based productivity tool by Nathan Baschez from newsletter publisher Every. This is an AI-driven word processor that helps you generate bodies of text, whether from scratch or as a supplement to existing materials. Although it’s available in English only, developers are looking to introduce additional languages.
In terms of app layout, LEX can be likened to a more minimalistic version of Zoho Docs, but with a native GPT-3 integration included by design. You can also check out ChatGPT or Claude for other AI-powered chatbots. Of course, it still has a couple of technical restrictions.
A tool for bridging writer’s blocks
As a web-based app, you don’t need to download any app and you only need to access it from any internet browser. Still, it requires you to log in, mainly by using a Google account. However, the massive demand for this new AI word processor could put you on a waiting list. If you’re not willing to wait, you can pay for an Every subscription to immediately use the app.
Using the app is also built on the same approach as any other AI word processor. You can put in a writing prompt or start typing your own material in the writing space. By simply typing “+++,” the platform automatically uses its GPT-3 integration to make suggestions on how to continue. If you regularly create bodies of text, this can help you easily work around cases of writer’s block.
Still, there are a couple of restrictions with this AI word processor. Depending on the user’s writing prompts, the accuracy and quality of the suggestions and responses may vary. More importantly, very specific writing conditions can leave the chatbot unable to make relevant suggestions. Also, it only supports English for its AI suggestions, although there are announced plans to include other languages soon.
Next-gen word processor
With AI tools taking over different parts of the online experience, LEX is a good tool for writers everywhere. From the app design, it feels like a streamlined version of most word processors in use today. It also comes with simple commands designed to immediately help you get recommendations when you need them. Still, like most AI tools, it still has a couple of technical restrictions.
