Co-op fantasy adventure experience
Knights of Braveland is a premium adventure game from the Tortuga Team, designed as a co-op experience that you can enjoy locally or online. In this fantasy-themed beat-em-up, you join the Heroes Guild, starting as a rookie and eventually becoming the kingdom’s hero. It features randomly generated campaigns drawn from hundreds of separate events.
Featuring a good variety of music tracks, smooth animation, and cute visual designs, Knights of Braveland is a massively enjoyable experience with virtually infinite replayability value. The randomness of the game also creates unexpected difficulty spikes along the way. It plays a lot like Ember Knights.
Rise to knighthood
Knights of Braveland has a rather straightforward premise. You choose your starting character — whether a peasant, a rogue, or a blacksmith — and become a full-fledged knight. This alone creates a lot of build and progression possibilities. The game generates a campaign from hundreds of individual quests, also driven by your choices. For example, elven characters could lead to secret paths or side NPCs could become late-game enemies.
In terms of visuals, it features a chibi art style where everything is cute and miniaturized, giving the game a fun, casual appeal. This is paired with very smooth animation, which allows the beat-em-up aspect of the game to translate well. Even the choice of soundtracks used in the game complements its overall fantasy theme. These elements help keep the game replayability and work well with the volume of content it offers.
While co-op play remains one of its draws, the game could still feel repetitive. The game could use additional variety in terms of attack styles and patterns. Also, a good chunk of the fun is lost because its user interface is not intuitive. The lack of detailed info regarding weapons and interactions leaves players fumbling and making it difficult to create a build or continue while fully understanding what they’re doing.
An enjoyable experience with opportunities for improvement
Despite its minor issues with the repetitive gameplay approach and the counterintuitive user interface, Knights of Braveland still warrants your attention. It works as a casual experience you can enjoy alone or with friends. The graphics, soundtrack, and animation quality are all already there. By improving the core gameplay experience, it has the potential to reach more players. It works as a fun way to pass the time.
