Kindle Cloud Reader is a free website browser application that lets you store and read your Kindle books. Since Kindle is an Amazon product, the Amazon Kindle Cloud Reader app is automatically included in your Amazon membership. The clean user interface is user friendly.

An actual Kindle app is available as an alternative to the web-based Kindle Cloud Reader. Both services give you your library of books to read. You can launch the Kindle Store on the Amazon website with both apps, and both Kindle products are available to use on a Microsoft Windows PC operating system.

What is the difference between Kindle and Kindle Cloud Reader?

The Kindle app includes more features than the Kindle Cloud Reader, like the ability to import PDFs. The Kindle software gives you more settings to choose from to customize your user experience than the Kindle Cloud Reader does. The Cloud Reader does not need to be downloaded, while the Kindle app does.

How do I get to my Kindle Cloud Reader?

The official Amazon website lets you go to the Kindle Cloud Reader site. You can click on the hamburger menu to get to the ‘Kindle E-readers & Books’ section. The ‘Kindle Cloud Reader’ option will be available in the ‘Apps & Resources’ area. You will be directed to the Kindle Cloud Reader URL. You can alternatively type the URL into your address bar.

A definite benefit that you will get with the Cloud Reader is that you do not need to have a Kindle or Fire tablet to read your books. The Kindle Cloud Reader can be conveniently opened wherever you are on computer, laptop, mobile, and tablet devices in a web browser.

What is Kindle Cloud Reader?

Kindle Cloud Reader is a website that lets you use your Kindle. Your Amazon Kindle books will be listed in the library on the main page. You can search the titles in your list by typing in the ‘Search Your Kindle’ bar.

A ‘Sort by’ menu lets you organize your catalog into ‘Recent’, ‘Title’, ‘Author’, ‘Purchase Order’, and ‘Purchase Order (Reverse)’. Two views are available to choose, either the grid or list view. The cover images will often be larger in the ‘Grid’ option. You can click on a book to begin reading.

A toolbar will appear at the top with a variety of options to choose from. The first button lets you conveniently skip to certain parts of the book. You can quickly jump to the ‘Cover’, ‘Table of Contents’, ‘Beginning’, ‘Page’, or ‘Location’. The ‘Page’ option lets you type a page number to go to. You can manage your settings in the ‘Aa’ button.

A preview picture will change in real time according to the settings you choose to try. Multiple color mode, font size, and margin options are available to modify. You can choose whether you want the text to appear in one column or two columns. Your view will resemble a book when you choose the two column mode.

A bookmark button is available to let you save the pages. The page icon lets you review a complete list of annotations for each title. The ‘Notes & Highlights’ window lets you delete your marks. You can click the annotations to jump to spots in the book. The ‘Your Library’ button will bring you back to the home page immediately.

Why can’t I see my books on Kindle?

The notebook icon and the ‘Kindle Store’ button in the top row open your web browser. You can review your annotated notes in the web page that launches after you tap the notebook image. The highlights and notes that you take while you read are organized into ‘Highlights’ and ‘Notes’ sections.

The books that you have annotated will appear in a list in the left panel. A search bar lets you easily find books by typing in the titles, with the most recently marked up books appearing at the top of the list by default. You can select each title to see the edits that you made. 

The title, author, cover art, and most recent date accessed will appear for each of the books. You can make annotations on words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, and pages. The page numbers that your annotations are on will be listed. An ‘Options’ dropdown menu will appear next to the edits to let you ‘Open in Kindle’, ‘Edit note’, ‘Delete Highlight’, or ‘Delete note’.

The selections in the ‘Options’ menu will change depending on whether the annotation was a highlight or note. While you have a book open in the Kindle Cloud Reader, you can tap on text to open a menu. A definition will appear when you click on a single word. A series of dictionaries are available to choose from, like The New Oxford American Dictionary.

A window will appear to let you learn more about the words you choose with the full definition available to read. Two annotation options appear when you select a single or multiple words: ‘Highlight’ or ‘Note’. The words will be colored in a yellow highlight when you choose ‘Highlight’. You can remove the highlight by tapping the word again to pick ‘Delete Highlight’.  

Practical program for Kindle books

Kindle Cloud Reader lets you easily read Kindle books when you do not have your Kindle app or Kindle e-Reader around. You can use virtually any web browser to open the Kindle Cloud Reader program. The Cloud Reader is available in Brave, DuckDuckGo, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, etc. The web-based platform is convenient, since you can access your books anywhere and on a variety of devices.
