The Battle of Saragarhi is a historical war between the Indian Army and the Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen. The war lasted for 12 days and resulted in a major defeat for the Orakzai and the destruction of many of their camps.

The battle occurred in the North-West Frontier Province of the British Indian Empire. At that time, the area was very sparsely populated and was dominated by a few large and powerful tribes, the most prominent of which was the Pashtun Orakzai. The Orakzai had their main camp in the Saragarhi district and were constantly engaged in attacking the nearby Indian Army post.

The main source of income for the Orakzai was from the trade route known as the Silk Route, which connected the oases in the desert to the major cities of the Persian Gulf and Central Asia.
