In Islam, there are different levels of religious knowledge, from the basics of the worship, beliefs, and values, to the most advanced studies of the Quran and the history of the Prophet Muhammad. These studies are called “Ilm”.

Pre-Ilm:

A person can be a Muslim, but not have any knowledge of the Quran or any of the religious beliefs and values.

Ilm:

A person can know the basics of the worship, beliefs, and values, as well as have a good understanding of the Quran and the history of the Prophet Muhammad.
