Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Public Library (제주특별자치도 공공도서관), developed by 주이씨오, provides a mobile gateway for residents and visitors to manage library interactions on Android. The app centralizes catalogue discovery, borrowing controls, reservations, and branch information across the island, letting members handle most tasks from a single interface. Key elements include a digital membership barcode, island-wide search, loan and reservation tools, and location-aware branch data. It targets Jeju residents, students, and long-term visitors using local libraries daily.

How it supports everyday borrowing and discovery

The app generates a digital barcode after a member logs in, which replaces physical cards and is displayed in the Mobile Card section for checkout. Members can view current loans, check due dates, and submit extension requests. The reservation system notifies users when held titles arrive, and the Hope Book feature lets members request new purchases. A barcode-scanning function looks up ISBNs to check availability within the island network.

How it connects libraries and handles account setup

The tool searches holdings across the integrated Jeju public library network so users do not open separate portals for each branch. Account access requires an active library membership and standard login credentials; if the app fails to recognize an account, users are advised to verify membership at a branch. The developer's background in library automation and RFID underpins the app's focus on linking physical collections to mobile access.

Is it practical for everyday and non-technical users?

Onboarding is straightforward when credentials are valid: logging in auto-creates the mobile card and consolidates services previously spread across multiple web pages. Community feedback highlights convenience for routine tasks such as holds and catalogue lookup. Published details do not list dedicated accessibility modes like high-contrast themes or explicit screen-reader options, so users with specific accessibility needs should check device-level aids alongside the app.

How the app handles location data and user notifications

The app uses location-based services to identify nearby branches and show operating hours and closing days, which requires granting GPS access. Reservation alerts and pickup notices arrive through the app when notifications are enabled. Account credentials are used to generate the mobile barcode and access loan records. The service is Android-native and intended for modern smartphones; system compatibility varies by device model.

The app is a practical fit for frequent Jeju library users

The app is a practical option for residents and students who want to manage borrowing and library visits from a phone; it reduces paper cards and consolidates island-wide collections into a single interface. Note that user reports cite occasional synchronization issues with library databases, which can affect real-time availability checks. A useful pro tip: confirm your membership status at a branch if login fails, and enable location and push permissions for full functionality.
