Parallel-world RPG experience
Isekai Rondo is a premium hit role-playing game from Kemco and Exe-Create. This game lets you follow Sho, an overworked and underpaid Japanese salaryman. He is then magically reincarnated into a fantasy world as Shaw. Starting out as an unemployed nobody, luck turns his way as he becomes an overpowered Sage, giving you virtually limitless power.
Moving text, pixel art, and chiptune soundtracks all work together in Isekai Rondo to create an authentic, immersive, and enjoyable JRPG experience. You can also check out Collection of Mana or Shadows of Adam for similar, more challenging games in the subgenre.
From corporate to fighting the Overlord
RPG Isekai Rondo has a game premise that is both fun and curious. On one hand, it builds on the isekai subgenre, which revolves around people from this world getting transported into a parallel fantasy world. On the other hand, it provides an insight into Japanese salarymen's life—thrust into a fast-paced and demanding work environment. This way, it has a backstory that is grounded in reality before transitioning into something fantastic.
As a JRPG title, it has all the necessary elements. You have the well-rendered pixel artwork that somehow clearly conveys details, whether it’s Sho’s office or Shaw’s fantasy landscapes. It has a good cast of characters, both NPCs and potential guild members. Last, but definitely not the least, is that most of your experience is accompanied by a good selection of chiptune music, making the JRPG experience much more immersive.
Since most classic JRPGs have been ported to this system, veteran players of the subgenre might find this too easy. Even in its toughest difficulty levels, the gameplay isn’t that hard. This applies even to late-game content, limiting its potential for replayability. Additionally, this version heavily leans toward microtransactions. Other than this, the main concern with the game is its longer-than-usual dialogues.
A fun and enjoyable JRPG
As a love letter to the JRPGs of the previous decades, RPG Isekai Rondo is a great entry fans of the subgenre must try. It builds on toxic work culture as an isekai backstory that leads to a refreshing fantasy adventure. The use of pixel art style and chiptune soundtracks only adds to the game’s value. In terms of challenge, however, it comes up short compared to other titles.
