A collection of shoot-‘em-up arcade titles
Irem Collection Volume 3 is an assortment of three different, action-packed shoot-‘em-up games published by ININ Games for consoles. These combat-packed, arcade titles, illustrated in pixel graphics evocative of nostalgia, take you on varying journeys in the world of magic, mayhem, and machines.
Irem Collection Volume 3 delivers a retro experience, allowing fans of arcade shooter games to reminisce and newcomers to the genre to enjoy the great games of the past. This time, however, the graphics are now improved and enhanced, providing everyone with a high-quality experience like never before.
3 titles in 1
One of the three fantastical shooter games is Mr. Heli (Battle Chopper), a Japanese title released in 1987. This one lets you step into the shoes of Mr. Heli, a quirky pilot who must traverse uniquely designed pixel-art stages full of puzzles, eliminate varying enemy factions and bosses, mine crystals while uncovering secret paths, and gain in-game currency and enhance weapons.
Another game in the collection is Mystic Riders, an arcade title released in 1992. This shooter game follows two magic-wielding broom-riders, Zeal the Witch and Mark the Wizard, who navigate the horizon, eliminating colossal sky turtles, scorching demons, and other mythical creatures. It is playable with another user through local two-player mode, allowing you to engage in an enchanting tag-team action.
The last game among the collection is Dragon Breed, a 1989 shooter title, where you ride a dragon named Bahamoot who can put every enemy in its path to ashes. What makes this collection great is that it features quick save and load, optional controller enhancements, and customizable control layouts. However, the overall design might feel outdated, and the repetitive pattern can become boring in the long term.
Classic arcade-style shoot-‘em-ups
Irem Collection Volume 3 offers a nostalgic yet polished trip through classic arcade shoot-‘em-ups, blending magic, machines, and mayhem. With enhanced graphics and quality-of-life features, such as quick saves and customizable controls, it appeals to both long-time fans and newcomers. While some gameplay elements feel dated, the collection’s charm makes it a worthwhile experience for those who appreciate retro action and pixel-art adventures.
