Infliction is an adventure game developed by Caustic Reality. This game will have players wander through an interactive nightmare set that is once a happy household. Here, you will explore the abandoned and blood-soaked halls to discover the cause of the haunting.

Infliction shares gameplay similarities with Gone Home. Like the exploration game, you will solve the mystery using the household items as clues. Each item has a specific memory tied to them, and when found, will trigger disturbing audio logs. However, unlike the latter, there is a murderous spirit that will kill you should you be careless. 

Walk inside a nightmare

Infliction is a haunted house tour de force that will challenge players to uncover a tragedy-riddled past of the once happy suburban home. As with other horror games, the goal is to solve the mystery through the help of the items found in the house. However, there is a murderous spirit that will stop you from doing so. Furthermore, it will kill you in horrific ways if given the chance.

More than the spirit, the house itself is equally terrifying as it feels unpredictable in its otherworldly construction. Although it looks like an average home, you will quickly experience the violence within its walls. There are strange markings on the walls and doors open by themselves. Worse, the layouts shift and would sometimes take you to a different place. With this, you will keep guessing as you explore.

Adding to the paranoia is the fantastic sound design. Floorboards creak, doors slam, and bodiless whispers are calling to you. Although, these sounds are also a hint that the spirit is near you, allowing you to prepare. However, as with indie games, the gameplay is short. Additionally, it forces you to sit through a 20-second animation every time you get knocked out or attacked by the spirit. 

Should you play it?

Overall, Infliction is a horror game done well. Although the gameplay is nothing new, the execution is impeccable. It utilizes jump scares sparingly and smartly, preventing players from getting used to them. It also comes with a superior sound design that adds to the unsettling atmosphere. Although lacking in gameplay length, the entire game, with its scares and intrigue, is definitely memorable.
