The INCREASE project is a Citizen Science project which aims to increase knowledge about the biodiversity of food plants and to involve citizens in the conservation of these resources. The project involves a number of research activities. The most important are:

The identification of food plants in the EU, their description, and their taxonomy. The creation of a database of these plants. The collection of samples for seed germination testing. The testing of the effects of food-related factors on germination, including stress, salinity, and temperature. The characterisation of the food plant material, in particular the seed, in order to identify its health-related properties. The creation of a database of these properties. The study of the effects of these properties on the germination of the seeds. The sharing of the results of these experiments with the public, the scientific community, and the interested community.

The project is implemented in accordance with the principles of open science, open innovation, and open to the world.
