Qur'an is the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be a revelation from God (Arabic: الله‎, Allah). It is widely regarded as the finest piece of literature in the Arabic language.

In Islam, Qur'an is divided into chapters (surah in Arabic), which are then divided into verses (ayah in Arabic). In most cases, each verse in the Qur'an is divided into several parts called a'majestic unit' (Tawheed). In some cases, a'majestic unit' may contain one word, one phrase, or one sentence. Each'majestic unit' is then subdivided into 'ayahs' and'verses'. The word 'Qur'an' is often used as if it were a single unit of Qur'an, but in reality it refers to the entire Qur'an as a whole.

In a hadith from the Prophet (peace be upon him), the importance of the Qur'an is described as follows:

The most decisive day in the Islamic calendar is the Day of Judgment. On that day, people will be presented with the book of Allah and the Book of God. People will be divided into two groups. Those who believe in Allah and are righteous will be placed in a beautiful garden. They will be given books and a miracle will occur. The books will be opened and the people will be given the chance to look at the Book of Allah and the Book of God. The people who believe in Allah and are righteous will be given the right interpretation of the Qur'an.
