A DnD and Good Omens RPG
Heroes of Paradis: Prologue is a free-to-play fanmade game produced by Mudskip Productions using the RPG Maker VX Ace. In this role-playing crossover between Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) and the hit British novel “Good Omens.”
Heroes of Paradis: Prologue combines the humor and fantasy elements from the novel written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, and combines it with the rich lore of the DnD universe. It results in a game that is quite similar to 8-bit classics like Chrono Trigger or modern contemporaries or Game of Thrones: The 8 bit game.
A unique story of friendship
Heroes of Paradis: Prologue is based on an unfilmed 1992 script for Good Omens. The player can use William Ange (a human based on Aziraphale) and Jacinth (a Tiefling based on Crowley). This unique story is immediately engaging, starting with William being lost in a forest and finding an unexpected companion. Their meeting spirals into a complex tale of good and evil and the friendship in the middle of it.
In terms of its graphics, the game looks like a fun Final Fantasy spinoff, with Jacinth even looking like an 8-bit Deadpool in a costume. These graphics make the game inviting and fun, creating a nostalgic experience for players who got to enjoy simpler graphics delivering immersive and memorable video game stories. Despite the limitations of the graphics engine, the developers try to make each major character stand out visually.
One slight problem with the game is that there are certain bugs that cause the game to freeze and force players to restart the game or reload their last good save. Other than that, the game is a fun 8-bit RPG that stands on its own. It does away with most of the Dragons and Dungeons game mechanics, such as being a dice-based tabletop game, favoring an immersive RPG approach.
A great fan game
From the respective lores of Dungeons & Dragons and Good Omens, the developers behind Heroes of Paradis: Prologue managed to create something fun and unique. Reminiscent of old-school 8-bit games, the game employs a similar aesthetic, letting players enjoy the story and the gameplay mechanics more. If you’re tired of the high-resolution games currently available, this game is a good nostalgic break.
