Her Story belongs to the visual novel genre. A visual novel focuses on telling a story in which, from time to time, the player can decide how it will unfold. It is similar to "Choose Your Own Adventure" style books.

Your mission in Her Story is to access the police database and find all the fragments of an interrogation of a woman with many mysteries behind her. What has happened to her? What is "her story" (Her Story)?

Behind the game we find Sam Barlow, creator of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. He is a developer specialized in luring you with stories with effective dramatic twists and turns that you will hardly be able to predict. The same goes for Her Story: you won't be able to stop until its grand finale.

Her Story lasts just long enough: between three and five hours. If you're hooked, you'll probably finish it in an afternoon.

Being a visual novel, Her Story limits your interaction possibilities. When you start the game you will have a limited number of videos of the interrogation at your disposal. Imagine that the woman mentions her husband and you want to know more about him. Search the database for other fragments of the interrogation with the word "husband" and you will access new information. Perhaps you will discover the husband's name, unveiling new enigmas.

This method of investigation makes you feel like a real detective. If you are just starting in the visual novel genre, you may have some problems to advance. But if you are an expert you might guess where the plot is going before time and start looking for words that jump various plot points.

Part of the charm of Her Story is the "graphics," so to speak. The interrogation was actually filmed using a real-life actress. Viva Siefert, that's the name of the performer, puts herself into her role beautifully. Any gesture she makes that strikes you as unusual is no accident; you know she's hiding something or that she meant what she said.
