GutWords is a Chrome add-on developed by dreamty88 that aims to help users effectively memorize English vocabulary while browsing the web. This free tool allows users to learn words in the context of familiar language, making the learning process more engaging and natural.

Currently, GutWords is only compatible with popular Korean websites such as Naver, Daum, and Tistory. It works by replacing certain words on webpages with words that users can learn. When reading sentences with these replaced words, users can infer their meanings based on the context. Clicking on the replaced words opens a pop-up window that provides the word's definition, part of speech, pronunciation symbols, usage in a sentence, and its base form.

The pop-up window also offers additional actions such as viewing all the meanings of a word, marking a word as already known, or indicating whether a word immediately comes to mind when encountered on a webpage. Known words are not clickable and are replaced with regular text, ensuring users focus on unfamiliar vocabulary.

GutWords also provides a settings pop-up where users can pause the app, initialize the learning data, choose the language for learning (currently Korean and English), access a personal vocabulary list, select the learning level (basic, advanced, or expert), manage exceptions for specific websites, and review known words.

In addition to the pop-up functionality, GutWords offers convenient features through right-clicking. Users can exclude the current webpage from word replacements, release a previously excluded page, or search for the meaning of selected sentences or words, with search results displayed in a full-screen view.

With GutWords, users can effortlessly expand their vocabulary while reading online content, making language learning a seamless part of their everyday web browsing experience.
