GuitarTuna: Tune & Play Guitar is a free utility mobile application developed by Yousician Ltd. It is a multi-purpose companion tool for budding and veteran musicians and enthusiasts alike. It offers a comprehensive tuning suite for a wide variety of string instruments that helps users tune their gear before playing or practicing.

Like Guitar Songs or Strum, the GuitarTuna app also lets users discover and learn songs through detailed and easy-to-follow tabs and chords. It offers various subscription plans that cater to different needs and use cases, from tools for live gigs to lessons and training that help build knowledge and playing proficiency.

Attuned to your instrument

Before playing your instrument, having it in tune is paramount, and GuitarTuna makes the process easy with an interactive tuning experience, wherein you can adjust each string in real time and see it align with the correct pitch and tone, utilizing your device’s built-in mic. It supports 15 types of string instruments and more than 100 tuning schemes, letting you play whatever and however you want.

Once you have your bearings, take advantage of GuitarTuna’s large database of guitar tabs and chords for over 20,000 songs and start learning how to play them, with multiple variations to choose from to suit your skill level. There are also video tutorials and interactive training that offer a more visual approach to learning, if that is what you prefer.

Other notable tools include an adjustable metronome, an ear trainer, and access to a chord library with visual demonstrations. All that said, most of what’s mentioned here, apart from the tuning features, requires a paid subscription to unlock and use, so you will have to decide if it’s worth it for you. If you stay with the free tier, you’ll also have to deal with some distracting ads.

A must-try for guitarists

On the surface, GuitarTuna’s tuning feature is reason enough to check it out, providing an intuitive way to keep all of your instruments in tune. However, if you want to dive deeper, it offers a lot more that can benefit you, whether you’re a newbie or have been playing for a while. Check it out now and see for yourself.
