Clearly, you can create a game about almost any concept you can think of, even about something as mundane as cutting grass. Grass Cut is an arcade game developed by VOODOO games. The objective of the game is pretty obvious from its very title. In order to win in this game, you must clear the level by clearing lawns of the overgrown grass on it. Despite its simple premise, the game actually requires a lot of strategy and skill in order to accomplish. 

Graphics and Aesthetic

Obviously, the first thing users will see and judge in any game are its graphics and aesthetic. Aesthetically, the game is cartoony in design. It’s not so cartoony to look juvenile and childish, but it is cartoony enough to look fun and enjoyable. The developers definitely did not go for a realistic aesthetic, and that’s understandable considering the game is more of a casual arcade game rather than a realistic portrayal of grass cutting.

The illustrations and animations are perfectly serviceable for an arcade game. The motions are fluid which enhances the speed of the fast-paced gameplay. The interface and menus are straightforward to not confuse players with unnecessary buttons and commands. This works out perfectly well considering the actual mechanics of the game are quite simple and easy to understand.

Mechanics and Objectives

As mentioned above, your objective in the game is to cut all of the grass in the lawn in order to proceed to the next level. You control two connected spinning blades and you make them move by tapping on them. Each tap will change their direction and you must direct them properly to cut all of the grass in the lawn. Every level is shaped differently, and they all vary in size and color. The game may seem uncomplicated, but it does take a bit of strategy and control to win.

During each level, flowers will pop up that increase your total when you cut them. They also provide power-ups such as a faster or longer grass cutter. 

Simple, but Fun

They say don’t judge a book by its cover. Well, don’t judge a game by its premise no matter how mundane and simple it may seem. Grass Cut has a really straightforward premise and mechanic, but there’s a lot more to it than it seems. It’s not going to win any game of the year awards, but it is a time-waster that’s way more fun than it initially appears.
