It is only in later levels where attacks come from different sides, at which point you have to move around and maneuver before shooting.

Gloomy Dungeons 3D was not built as an epic saga and the storyline is almost non-existent. It was built for people who enjoy older FPS games such as Doom, Wolfenstein and Duke Nukem.
