Gigasword is a retro-styled platform adventure with a focus on puzzles. Your sword is not only a weapon; it is a key to progress through a puzzle-filled world.

Old-school puzzle platforming

Gigasword strives to replicate the simple graphics, music, and gameplay style of the 8-bit era, but it will still pose a challenge to players used to modern games. As the game's hero, you are equipped with a large sword that can be used to fight off enemies and also to activate various machines and devices that you will come across on your journey.

Simple controls, tough puzzles

Besides running and jumping, you have just three main controls: attack, dodge, and interact. If you are not standing over a game element that can be interacted with, the interact command will cause your hero to stick his sword in the ground, after which he can explore the playing field unarmed. This sounds simple, but the game's puzzles push the mechanics to the limit. When you meet a new enemy, is it best to attack or dodge?

An enjoyable retro platformer

In terms of graphics and gameplay, Gigasword has close similarities to the indie hit Shovel Knight. It is not identical, however. In Shovel Knight, the gameplay's focus is on how to use your weapon to fight off enemies. In Gigasword, the focus is more on working out how to transport the large sword from one place to another. The hero can run faster and jump higher without it, so there are times when you will need to leave your sword in an elevator and collect it later.

More puzzle; less action

The broad playing field makes it similar to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, although it has more focus on puzzles and less on action than that game. With nothing inappropriate for children, Gigasword can be played by both younger players and by adults nostalgic for the 8-bit era it evokes.
