What is the Gendarmerie?

Gendarmerie is the armed force of Cambodia. It is responsible for the maintenance of public order and internal security in the country.

It has four important roles:

• Prevention: to prevent and suppress any illegal activities.
• Repression: to prevent any violation of the law.
• Rescue: to recover any person who has been arrested or who is injured during the rescue.
• Research: to gather information to assist in the prevention and repression.
