Retro platforming rebuilt for couch co-op
Frogun Encore, published by Top Hat Studios, Inc. and developed by Molegato, is a standalone expansion/sequel to the indie platformer Frogun. Set three years after Renata defeated Beelzebub, the story follows Renata, Jake, and Hatter as they travel the globe to stop one of Beelzebub’s loyal followers from bringing him back.
The game keeps the original’s colorful low-poly charm while expanding the formula with faster traversal, larger-feeling challenges, boss fights, hidden routes, collectibles, unlockable hats, and a poseable photo mode. Its biggest addition is true couch co-op, which lets a second player join as Jake for cooperative exploration or friendly races through each level.
New moves enhance discovery
Encore broadens the original game’s movement system with new options such as the double jump, catapult, and throw jump. These additions work alongside swinging, grabbing, ledge traversal, and Frogun-based navigation, making exploration feel livelier and more flexible.
The extra mobility also gives secret hunting more purpose. Players who master the advanced jumping and grabbing mechanics can uncover shortcuts, hidden areas, journal entries, treasures, and Flying Emblems.
Same-room co-op platforming
Jake can drop in at any time, turning Encore into a same-room co-op platformer. Two players can work together through dangerous ruins or race toward the end of every level, giving the game a playful competitive edge without losing its cooperative focus.
This makes Encore especially appealing for players who want a local multiplayer platformer. Those looking for online co-op may find the package less suitable, since the game’s multiplayer identity is centered on couch play.
A playful platforming sequel
Frogun Encore is a cheerful follow-up that expands the original with faster movement, local co-op, boss fights, and more reasons to replay levels. It best suits fans of classic 3D platformers, collectible hunting, and same-room multiplayer, though players wanting online co-op may prefer other options.
