Forgive my Sins, Father is a free, narrative-driven game in which the player takes on the role of a priest. The story begins when the priest receives a visitor, who has come to confess sins. From here, a dark and unsettling story begins to emerge.

Although it has elements of horror, Forgive my Sins, Father is not a survival horror game in the manner of Resident Evil 7. Instead, it belongs to the tradition of anime-influenced visual novels like CUPID The gameplay consists of choosing how to answer dialogue questions to push the story forward.

A game of moral decisions

As the story progresses, the troubled young man Samael will give updates about an increasingly serious dispute between himself and his fiancee. The player's job as the priest is to give him advice, which will involve making moral decisions. For example: should he ask forgiveness from a priest or his fiancee?

Heavy themes

While the anime-style visuals may appear cute at first, this game is not for children. Its storyline includes heavy topics, including murder and sexual abuse. That said, Forgive my Sins, Father shows an ability to tackle these topics with sensitivity and restraint.

Limited graphics but a strong story

The game is somewhat restricted in terms of presentation. The two main characters have a limited range of facial expressions, while backgrounds and music are similarly sparse. The dialogue conveyed in the text boxes is well-written and engaging, however, and does a good job of telling the story.

Four endings to unlock

The game includes a total of four different endings, which add some replay value as you can try again with different answers for Samael. However, once all four endings are unlocked, you are unlikely to want to play Forgive my Sins, Father again.
