Florrae places your character in one of five worlds. You roam around on a platform of infinite hexagons. It is a relaxing exploration game within a procedurally generated world. It has a dynamic day-night cycle, plus it is very colorful and efficiently rendered. When mixed with its soundtrack, the game offers a very tranquil experience.

In terms of raw design for a procedurally generated game, it is closer to Returnal, though without the triple-A graphics and gunplay. In terms of aesthetics, it is a mixture of a Wii Mario game mixed with a heavy dose of Thea the Awakening.

An experiment in procedural generation

This free-roaming game doesn't have a real purpose — it is just a free-roam-for-fun game. However, the level of quality, build, design, and how the procedural generation works are big indicators that the tiny development company has exceptionally skilled members.

There are things to find

A less ambitious developer would have been happy with the five biomes and wonderfully realized concept, but Florrae also has random NPCs you can meet. This infinite exploration game offers clues as to directions you can take. For example, a firefly may lead you, or there may be a color change in a certain direction.

A strong piece of artwork

Florrae is free to download, but you can offer a donation to play this infinite worlds game. It is a wonderful concept piece and digital art, but its lack of narrative or overall purpose may reduce its mass appeal.

Massive potential in a single game

Though this game has a very small scope, it is a proof of concept that could be applied to many mediums, from discovery games to VR adventures. Though it isn't likely that this game will evolve further, it could certainly set trends as its own genre of procedurally generated games.
