Fate/Grand Order is a free-to-play adventure game from Aniplex Inc. This is a team-based role-playing game that combines visual novel and gacha elements. In this game from the long-running Fate franchise, you play as the master in charge of collecting and commanding servants, most of which are based on popular historical and literary characters.

Fate/Grand Order has been adapted into an anime series, building on its distinct art style and a massive cast of characters. Aside from the steep learning curve and the dated user interface, it retains a sizable player base years after its release.

Pull for unique characters

Like other gacha-based games, such as Arknights or Genshin Impact, playable characters in Fate/Grand Order are also pulled in a lottery-like system. In this game, characters are inspired by various historical, mythological, or literary characters and are sorted by rarity, denoted by the number of stars. It allows you to fight using characters such as Artoria Pendragon, Julius Caesar, Hokusai, or Frankenstein’s Monster.

While the game is primarily single-player, it also allows for some asynchronous multiplayer experiences such as support and raids. For each team, you can control up to six Servants and engage in turn-based combat. Aside from choosing what attacks to do, there are also affinity and combo considerations to consider, making the game strategic beyond choosing the strongest characters you have.

Since this is a dated game, first released in 2015, expect the age to show up in various parts. First of all, the response and interface could use an update to keep up with its competitors. Similarly, new events and story content are rare and far between. While it has a lot of things to do for new players, it’s running out of materials to keep post-game players engaged.

The UI, community, and the single-player story could definitely use an update.
