Factorio has truly horrible graphics, and the shooting side of the game is very poorly executed. However, this game is noted for being very addictive because there is no perfect way to set up your factory. No matter how efficient you make your factory, there is always somebody out there who has created a more efficient version.

Build a production line and ensure your survival

You start out with nothing but a few hand tools and a few scattered resources. The aim of the game is to mine those resources and create ever-increasingly sophisticated items. You start out with a pickaxe with which to mine ore. You smelt it down and create metal plates and other items to create tools that load your smelters for you. The more you play, the more sophisticated your factory becomes until your character may sit back and relax while advanced weapons, tools and factory pieces are created automatically. The aim is to survive against increasingly difficult enemy attacks. As mentioned, the graphics are terrible because the indie developers didn’t have a big budget. However, many people have become hooked on the game after playing the free demo.

It doesn’t shine until later in the game

The fact that so many people have become hooked on Factorio because of the free demo is surprising. The first few levels are a horrible grind and very bland. Factorio only becomes interesting when you may start automating your factory. Check out a few screenshots or Let’s Play videos to get an idea of how bad the graphics are. If you can tolerate the 2D view and the repetitive landscapes, then you may find yourself hooked.
