Extensible Follower Framework is a comprehensive mod that adds a lot of new stuff to followers, like increasing their size, making them immune from critical hits, adding armor and stamina cost to every action such as moving, modifying clothes, etc. It also gives you the ability to recruit more followers at once and edit them at your leisure. It allows you to select an existing follower, and from their disposition you can see what they are doing, where they are, and what they will do at a certain time. If you see that they have something planned, you can tell them about it, and if they get it wrong, you don't have to wait until another day to change things, because you can immediately make changes. This mod is extremely helpful for any user who has ever played Baldur's Gate and taken a major trek in the game. The problem with that game was that every major event required you to defeat a large number of enemy characters, and as a result there wasn't a great deal of freedom of movement.

This mod makes those types of challenges unnecessary. Through various methods, your follower's skill level and statistics are calculated so that you know what your follower can reasonably be expected to do. Once your follower is skill level high enough, they can start to specialize, either on a specific skill, type of armor, type of weapon, or in a variety of ways.

There are a number of different perks and abilities made available through this mod as well. Some allow your follower to become stronger while wearing heavier armor or using heavier weapons, or to increase their defenses against particular attacks. There are a large number of quests that your follower can complete, and these quests can be made more difficult as your follower becomes more experienced in the game. This allows your character to become stronger as they complete quests and gives them more of an incentive to stick around.
