ElsterSecure is the official authentication app from ELSTER for accessing Mein ELSTER. Once linked to an account, it allows users to log in with their smartphone instead of relying on a certificate file or username. The app is focused specifically on authentication, so it works as a secure login layer rather than a full tax-filing tool.

Setup and account linking

Existing Mein ELSTER users can activate ElsterSecure by signing in as usual, opening My Account, and selecting the Add ElsterSecure login option. New users can also choose ElsterSecure as their login method during registration at ELSTER’s website. After this initial setup, the smartphone becomes the main device used for future logins.

Useful for Mein ELSTER access only

The app is useful for taxpayers who want a simpler way to access Mein ELSTER without repeatedly managing certificate files. Its narrow scope is important, however: ElsterSecure does not prepare tax returns, manage documents, or replace the Mein ELSTER portal. It is also currently limited to logging in to Mein ELSTER, with third-party transmission not yet supported.

Best for regular Mein ELSTER users

ElsterSecure is best suited to users who regularly access Mein ELSTER and want an official phone-based login option. It simplifies account access, but users still need Mein ELSTER or other supported tools to complete tax-related tasks.
