Easy Digital Downloads is a free eCommerce plugin for WordPress that lets you sell digital products online, much like WordPress iSell, Paid Downloads Pro, and Dokan. It works with WooCommerce, so you won’t need to uninstall it. It places a frontend shopping cart so that your audience can buy and download the products easily.

There are plenty of payment gateways it accepts, but you’ll only have access to a few of them in the free version. You can customize and personalize the checkout to only include the information you need. It also records customer information so that you can view it at a later stage.

Insert a digital shopping cart

Whether your site offers digital downloads in the form of software, music, ebooks, documents, or graphics, Easy Digital Downloads adds a shopping cart on your site for easier sales. Your audience can browse your collection before deciding what they would like to purchase. With the click of a button, they’ll instantly receive their download after payment is verified.

One of the top features is the customer management module. You can easily view the details so that you can send them newsletters or keep them updated with news on the latest downloads.

Customizing options

You don’t need to leave the Easy Digital Downloads cart and shopping options at default. It lets you customize several of the settings so that you can personalize them with the site’s theme. You can change some of the more technical options, making it easier for your audience to use.

Free vs. paid options

While Easy Digital Downloads is free to install, there are several free and premium extensions you can add for more functionality. The one aspect worth mentioning is the payment gateways. With the free version, you’ll only have Stripe, PayPal, and Amazon Payments. You’ll need to install a premium extension if you want more options.

Let your audience buy directly

Easy Digital Downloads is incredible if you have a website that offers digital sales. While WooCommerce is just as good, you may enjoy its functionality more. Fortunately, you can run both on your site to test them out, but it may decrease the site’s health and performance.
