Futuristic city-building game for PC

Dystopika is a premium simulation game by developer Voids Within. It is a city-building simulator set in a futuristic cyberpunk world. Players are given a variety of different structures and building materials to allow them to create their very own unique and harrowing utopia that sets itself apart from the usual vibrant metropolis.

Dystopika lets you escape into a cyberpunk-inspired city builder. Place buildings, giant billboards, and holograms. At the same time, procedural generation handles landscapes and traffic, creating a unique, atmospheric metropolis. With no goals or objectives, you can just relax and build your dystopian dreams or nightmares, offering a chill, sandbox experience.

Dark and broody

Dystopika is essentially a free-form city-building simulator wherein you can build your own metropolis from the ground up, however you want. Set in the backdrop of a cyberpunk-esque world, you have unique mega structures, roads, and other infrastructure to create interconnected districts that feel lived in while maintaining that dystopian vibe. The controls require some practice to get used to, but the great sound design and music help with the immersion in return.

As this game is a city builder but for people who crave a darker atmosphere, in comparison to Sim City or Cities Skylines, you can decorate the streets with neon lights and billboards, as well as towering holograms. The experience is complemented by adjustable weather and time. Now, given the nature of the gameplay, some might think it lacks direction or progression and the experience will feel dull and repetitive after a while.

Version 1.5 Meditations update

This update features new soundtrack by Sascha Dikiciyan, a composer known for his work on games like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. This "Meditations from the Future" soundtrack blends cinematic ambient compositions with nostalgic synth, really enhancing the cyberpunk atmosphere as you build. It truly helps shape the skyline of you, the player, imagination with emotion woven naturally into the architecture.

The update also introduces two cool new districts, Labber's Row and C-VILLE. Labber's Row brings a secretive, brutalist research vibe, while C-VILLE offers a chaotic, black-market hub with tangled wires and skybridges. You'll also find the impressive Jade Corp megastructure, adding a grand centerpiece to your city. These additions significantly expand your visual palette and gives a bit more color to your dystopian city.

Additionally, Photo Mode is expanded with FPS-style camera controls for much more creative freedom. You can even record video directly from the game and add depth of field effects, new filters, and lens dirt. Plus, volumetric lighting, new light props, and customizable wall props give you even more tools to craft your unique dystopian vision. Lastly, mod support for landscapes is also available in beta.

A different kind of cozy

Dystopika offers a surprisingly relaxing experience that walks the line between dark and cozy. It's easy to get into and you're not pressured with objectives or goals, and you can just play at your own pace. In the same vein, though, others will find it a bit too aloof and aimless for their liking, add the difficult controls as well. Nonetheless, it’s a refreshing city builder title to try.
