Kitty Horrorshow’s DUST CITY is a free 3D fantasy adventure game wherein you scour a ruined city. Here, you will gather strange artifacts and touch crystals—which will transport you into new, uncharted worlds. It’s the independent developer’s first 3D game, touching on themes of oddness, melancholy, and humor wrapped with various fun gameplay mechanics.

Welcome to Dust City

At first glance, DUST CITY appears to be centered around doors; there seems to be a never-ending amount of doors in the games. The PDF manual that comes with the game mentions that the doors can be hazardous and unpredictable in nature, referring to it simply as "The Doors." It also says that the Agency will not be able to contact you or monitor your progress if you do enter a different building or structure. 

Here, you will discover that the game is not about exploring a series of doors but fulfilling a mission. The Agency has chosen you to investigate Dust City, a new city that appeared within a large crater in the last 12 hours (in-game time). You must search for clues, artifacts, and anomalies in the town so you and the Agency can figure out what it is and where it came from. 

You will be provided with some tools to help you on your mission, like the standard-issue Esotch Arcanodex 5 and Level 3 magical protection. All you need is to bring a pen and paper. You will need to make notes of the decrepit cities appearing seemingly out of nowhere. Use your notes to piece the clues together. It also helps that even without the clues, there are clickable entities that you can press randomly, revealing more clues or plot points. 

More than just an exploration game

DUST CITY is a good fantasy 3D game for its plot. While it takes inspiration from alien fantasy adventure genres, the story itself is unlike any other. The objective of the game’s creation is to have you explore new territory based on the clues you gathered or on your intuition. The environment is constantly eerie as the city is essentially a ghost town, so you need to be brave enough to discover what’s out there.
