Old Dog, New Tricks

The game is an interesting twist on a surprisingly solid RPG base. While there are some strange elements, like fighting men with shotguns as a dog, everything else works well. Breeding unlocks new variations, adding an animal trainer style mini game within Dog Sim Online: Raise a Family. The world feels large enough and the community is dedicated and active. The graphics are fine for a mobile game, chat works simply and some additional features like a 24-hour weather cycle are fun surprises. Levelling up and unlocking new abilities feels rewarding. While it certainly is a game aimed at a younger audience, it isn't lacking in adult players.

Dog Sim Online: Raise a Family has no business being as good an RPG as it is. What appears as a simple children's game has a depth that will entice any fan of the genre. The main concern is with the adds and in-app purchases which can be annoying. Although the game is free and so some adds are to be expected, the game's developers may have gone too far in places.
