Discord is a free social and communication app that offers voice, video, and chat capabilities for teens and adults, specifically ages 13 and up. The chat & instant messaging program brings people together across all platforms, namely through a web browser, a PC, or a mobile phone. Most Discord users meet to discuss their mutual love for a game or games in general, but Discord servers can cover any topic its members want to discuss.

Is Discord really safe?

Discord was first developed as a chat app for gamers as it offers search functions that allow players to find live streams, events, or gamers of a particular title. The program has since been turned into an organizational and social tool where any topic can be discussed such as anime, self-help, and cryptocurrency, as you will see in the server name. A Discord server is a chat room where you can invite other users.

They will receive a link that allows them to join it, where they can choose to have a text or voice chat with other members of the server. Each server is broken down further into channels. They are smaller groups dedicated to discussing a specific topic either through text or voice. While all channels can be seen by other members of the server, only those that are invited to private channels can access them.

The majority of Discord servers contain only a small group of people. There are, however, large and more open servers created by other users. These users can be other people that signed-up to Discord or official game developers. Whether you’re with your friends or with thousands of other users, it's important to use Discord’s Two-Factor Authentication feature. Otherwise known as 2FA, this is a time-based password required by Discord after you submit your login credentials.

Versatile chat and VoIP app

Discord app can be used for a variety of purposes such as stream games, complete projects, or learn something new. What is important is that you and your Discord connections come together because of an overlying theme that can be broken down into specific topics. Although the terms ‘server’ and ‘channel’ may not be familiar to new users, they are the only two features that they will need to familiarize themselves with.
