Turn webpage notes into coding context

Design Jam, by Adrien Gonin of Impasto Design, is a Chrome extension that converts visual website feedback into structured prompts for AI coding agents. Users can pin comments to specific page elements, inspect relevant styling details, and export the collected notes as Markdown. The extension works with tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot through manual copy and paste, making it useful for designers and developers who want clearer implementation instructions.

Pinpoint feedback without the screenshot scavenger hunt

Element-level annotations attach comments directly to selected parts of a live webpage, giving each request a clear visual target. Design Jam also captures selectors and relevant CSS information, including details related to layout, spacing, colors, and typography. This added context can make feedback more precise than a separate screenshot and message, although the final result still depends on how an external coding agent interprets the exported instructions.

Markdown keeps the handoff agent-agnostic

The extension compiles comments and technical context into a structured Markdown prompt that users copy to the clipboard. This general format can be pasted into Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or another compatible coding assistant without requiring a direct account connection. The flexible output avoids locking users into one agent, but prompts still need to be transferred manually because Design Jam does not edit code or apply website changes itself.

Local notes stay close to the page

Design Jam requires no account, and annotation sessions are stored locally in the browser rather than synchronized through a cloud workspace. This setup supports quick access and keeps the core workflow self-contained. However, the lack of built-in cloud synchronization limits cross-device access and shared team review. Its optional Jam mode also provides editable ASCII wireframes, although the complete wireframing toolset requires the Jam Pro upgrade.

A sharp bridge, not an automatic builder

Design Jam offers a practical way to translate visual feedback into more detailed instructions for AI-assisted development. Its element pins, CSS context, and flexible Markdown export help reduce vague handoffs without adding another online project account. However, it remains a preparation tool rather than a coding engine, so users must paste prompts into a separate agent and review the resulting changes themselves. It suits focused design and development workflows better than teams seeking a complete collaborative review platform.

  • Pros

    • Precise annotations with CSS and selector context
    • Local storage with no required account
  • Cons

    • Prompts require manual transfer to an external agent
    • Full ASCII wireframing requires Jam Pro
